So much misinformation in this thread......

1 - to rebuke the articles statement, if a car requires premium, put in premium! Detonation is bad.
2 - Texaco bought out Shell ages ago. They are now the same gas.
3 - Laws regarding ethanol vary state to state. In my state, every pump has to say "may contain up to 10% ethanol", whether it has 0% or 10% or anywhere in between. Other states are only required to run the sticker if they sell ethanol blended gas. Other states dont have any laws regarding ethanol yet!
4 - Putting premium in a car that only requires 87 is absolutely a waste of money, UNLESS and only unless you are experiencing detonation.
5 - If you believe using a gas additive every tank adds MPG, i have some ocean front property in Kansas to sell you.

the only reason i by at dillons is because for every 100 bucks i spend on grocery i get 10 cents offf. and i buy a sh*t ton of food a month so it works out good for me.

I don't add MMO to my fuel to increase MPG. I add it to offset the effects of ethanol, for its upper cylinder lubrication properties and to increase compression and therefore increase power. It also is a mild fuel injector cleaner. The slight increase in MPG is a welcome side effect but increasing MPG is not and never has been my primary reason for using MMO.

Sorry I brought it up.

It can and will sometimes actually make the vehicle run a lot worse. When I was 16 and had my fathers old f150, I thought it would be cool to run 93. I knew nothing then and 25 miles later it was sputtering and running TERRIBLE. Then I realized it was because I put in 93. The truck was programmed to run on 87 so anything else and it wouldn't detonate correctly.



And thunder, my father does the same thing. They have the deal at Stop&Shop (Northeast grocery store) where you spend so much they give you money off on gas, only he has a company gas card. Therefore he usually lets me use it to fill up. They use Shell for that so I've been getting Shell lately. We don't spend a real lot on grocery's only around $120 a week so it only takes off about 30 cents a gallon, but hey that's a lot better then nothing, so I'll take it.



What about the whole running your tank low all the time. I have a very cheap friend who always leaves his tank at a 1/4 or less unless he is going far. His reason is because a full tank of gas weighs a couple hundred pounds, therefore reducing you gas milage. But
A.) Isn't it bad to always be running around with just a little in the tank?
B.) How much of a difference can just a couple hundred pounds make? That's just like having a passenger in the front seat. I can't see it being noticable at all...


I usually keep it above 1/4 tank all the time. I don't like the idea of getting everything at the bottom of the tank. Even if there isn't really any crap in there. It's a peace of mind thing for me I guess.

I run it close to dry LOL the most I've filled up was 21.5 gal LOL that's pushing it close

In Canada, we don't have half the stations you do. Shell V-Power contains nitrogen here as a "cleaner". Husky is E10, Petro Canada runs A special cleaner as well. I am not sure of the other companies. I run premium (91 Octane in Canada except for Husky at 93) due to my SC
The ones I use, in order of preference are:
1. Shell V-Power 91 Octane
2. Petro Canada Super Clean 91 Octane
3. Husky/Mohawk Premium 93 Octane E10
4. Chevron (Only when in a town that has it)
5. UFA
6. Fas Gas
7. Esso/ 7/11

All the stations listed are in my town of 10,000 people except for Chevron.

I assume you are referring to
me, but I work at a gas plant where we use nitrogen to clean our exchangers and it works exceptionally well.

I don't doubt that. But you know how much nitrogen Shell puts in their gas? It's most likely such a negligable amount, that it doesn't do much of anything. All they say is it's in there. Never how much is in there. Now in days, companies love to use all kinds of crap to market their products. How come every oil company can say 10x better protection then all leading brands? It's pretty hard for them all to be better then each other. But marketing people find ways around it and to twist words so it's not false advertising although it's pretty close.

Now maybe Shell does put enough in thier gas to do something. I'm not an expert and I don't sample their gas or anything. But it's just like every commericial or advertisment out there. Most likely it's not much. Nitrogen cost a lot more then gasoline, so if Shell really put in that much. Their gas would be more expensive then everyone elses, but it's not. And actually it's one of the cheapest near me. And yes, I know we are only talking about 93 octane.
