Yes a/c is very cold when it is working. It seems the compressor only comes on after the truck has been sitting over night and then only works maybe 10 minutes.

Default Same Problem here

I have exactly the same problem. I was a little low on refrigerant and added more. The compressor ran the entire time.

Then I went for a short drive and then compressor stopped and won't run. It will run fine tomorrow for about 10 minutes. Any help would be appreciated.

Check the connection of the wiring to the clutch. Maybe it is melted or damaged.

Default Compressor Clutch

Mark,

I just checked to see if the cluth was receiving 12V when the AC switch was on.

I found that my clutch had 12V going to it, but was pulling in to turn the compressor. I don't know why it will pull in to start and then won't pull in the second time. I suspect the cluth is the problem.

Does anyone know if you can change the clutch without pulling the compressor?

I just did this on my 3.9 Dak, though I only had to put new bearings in. Unless you have the proper tool, I would recommend renting the clutch holding tool from Autozone. You will have a hard time getting the nut off without it. There is also a snap ring in there.

It is definitely possible on a 3.9 but I'm not sure what the belt arrangement is like for the others.

I found that the problem with my a/c was the compressor clutch but was unable to find a clutch seperate from compressor for a 4.7.Finally bought a used a/c compressor for $75.00 vacuumed and charged system. A/C is cooling like a new one. Thanks for the advice.
