Hey all I'm new here but I NEEDED to join up...I'm a Ford guy so Dodges are like speaking Slavik to me....Anyways, the GF has a 2000 Dakota with a 3.9 and has developed a problem. It has an intermittent shut-off/no start condition. I can pull the pos cable and reset the KAM then rehook it and she fires up just fine, but only until the next time it's shut-off or decides to stall. Now, the POS cable was a little loose initially and I figured that was the problem, but I tightened it up and it still does this. Researched to figure out how to pull codes and nothing came up whatsoever. As I said, I know NOTHING about Dodges so I'm firing a pistol in the dark tryin not to hit my foot. Part of me is leaning toward crank sensor but IDK. Also, you can wing the starter over all you want and it usually does nothing unless you put your foot on the accelerator, then it will usually start but not stay running. Or, you crank it over and it will try to start but stumbles itself to death and won't stay running unless you put your foot down on the accelerator. Thank you for ANY input whatsoever....I am so lost with this thing.
I would start at the IAC, It's not fully user-servicable, but you can lubricate it a little just to see if it's sticking or anything. Test the TPS with a voltmeter (the process is on the forum somewhere...), and I'd say do the crank trigger after testing the other 2 first.
I disagree about the parts being cheap, already purchased the crank sensor but have not installed it yet...67 bucks is a little ridiculous. Guess I better find some diagrams...I am not familiar at all with the TBI style stuff.
True, it could be...pulled the IAC and cleaned it..wasn't too dirty, I've definitely seen alot worse.....Now, the damn thing won't repeat itself...and still no codes....although apparently the waterpump is giving it up.....again.
Another thing to look for, and this might sound stupid, but check to make sure all of your grounds are good and tight and not corroded up. I had a similar problem and turned out I had a bad ground.
