I'd suggest taking a look around the site, things don't bolt up directly between the 3.9 and 5.9, the transmission is the big thing. Your current trans is useless for the 5.9 if I recall.

The housing will not match up, and unless you plan to mess around trying to fabricate something, I would try to find a new transmission.

The 3.9 uses a 42RH/RE , you'll need to find the 46RE for the 5.9L

Gen 1 Rangos and Gen 2 Daks are essentially the same engine wise, so if you can't find one for a dak, look for durango.

Aside from that, do some searchin' here on the forums.

the 5.9 is a direct swap for the 5.2s and the 3.9s.

those 3 engines use the same block... the 3.9's is only 2 cyl shorter.

the trans will work fine.

all you need:

5.9
5.9PCM
5.9/5.2 harness. literally everything is the same.

also, do yourself a favor...

get a 9.25 rear and install that with the 5.9. the 8.25 thats in there won't hold that power to long.

just make sure you got a 4x4 cpu.

otherwise its just a straight in swap.

but don't install the clutch fan... they just take away power lol. (~5hp)

but the back of the blocks don't change, how the trans works does (if thats understandable lol)

also, 4x4s wanna get the 9.25 rear... if they don't already have it (i know some durangos do)

but the 5.9L can only be swapped in and out with the 3.9/5.2. the 4.7/3.7 are a completely different setup (other than rearend)

Well my truck is a 4x4 and has the 9.25 rear, I also have 4.56's back there. so I need a cpu from a truck that had a 5.9 and 4x4. or will mine work?

the 4x4 kinda caught me off guard... so i looked around more and got some different views. but i'd try for a truck that had a 5.9 and 4x4.

Ii was afraid of that. I know where I can get a whole running driving darango for 800 . I just dont have it ..
how hard is it to rebuild a nv3500 .I'm tryin to explore my options .. I'd scrap the 2 and buy the one but mine are in alot better condition
5.9s ate not as common as others .. let me see what I come up with and I'll post

I don't think they made 4x4 with 5.9 engines ?
