Are you gonna race it? or you just want posi? Cause some came stock with LSD, or you could get a Tru Trac they have helical gears pretty sweet, or you could go with a locker manual or auto. What is your budget? and will you be installing?

Ok a junk yard is a good place for a buget build, but you never know the condition the previous oner left it in. It is not real hard to put in an LSD or tru trac, as long as the gear ratio does not change. I am in the Army and on post we have an auto skills center where you can work on your own car real cheap, this is where I replaced my gears. Does the marine bases have somthing similar? you can also look on other sites to see if anyone is selling one. Also how many bolts are on your rear diff cover?

Also if you go the junkyard route, open the rear diff cover(since you wanna change the fluid any ways) and look at the carrier, on the driverside you should see clutch plates. this will tell you that it has a stock LSD. another route to help narow it down is to open the glove box and look at the options plate(a white sticker) and see if it says LSD on the rear it will also let you know if it is 3.55 or 3.92 ratio. If you are planning on racing, a 3.92 will give you some more take off.

Um, you will never have a posi, because all a posi is, is a GM coined phrase they used back in the day.

Are you looking for a locker or a LSD unit?

is it 4x4 or 2wd if its 2wd you can change the gears no worries but if its 4x4 you gotta regear the front too.

why wouldn't you just grab the entire axle with the 3.92 gearing wouldn't that be cheaper and easier in the long run unless there is something else wrong with it?
