Default 2001 dakota 5.9 ?s

whats up guys? just went and looked at a 2001 dodge dakota quad cab 4x4 slt 5.9l with 105000 on it. Ive been looking at the rams but this little guy caught my eye when it said 5.9l...small truck+big engine= right? now my main ? is with the 4x4 selector. it had neutral, awd 4h 4l. so is this truck full time awd? or no? and anyone out there with opinons of these trucks, please, let me hear them. thanks

Depending on the asking price, 100K is NOT alot of mileage for the 360 (The 5.9 is the same classic mopar 360 block from decades ago). Fuel mileage can vary, but paranoid me would go and check every little thing and make sure nothing is overly worn.

Just remember ram is bigger. Im not trying to say skip the dakota because they are great trucks for there size its just for me I wished I would of held off for a ram even like right now im at camp and my entire truck is full got my reg clothes, huntin jacket and pants, gun, backpack with all my stuff in it,laptop and boots not to mention I brought my goon lab up with me. with a quad cab its a little bit more room than my extended cab. Anyway just check it over real good take the air hat off the throttle body and shine a flash light down threw and see if you can see puddles of oil laying in the intake a slight film is ok but puddles are not. Ball joints are another big thing that go but other than that there are no real big problems with daks well other than trannys but thats every dodge. Also yes the truck is awd all the time.

well. the dakota i was looking at i really love. Test drove it today, and omg could not stop smiling when i got back to the dealer lol. Amazing truck. lots of power and holy s*** does this thing pull. its 9995 with 2995 down and buy here pay here for 80 bucks a week..which is 320 a month..which i can do, but im starting college in spring and dont want to be scraping by. So if anyone has experience with guyherepayhere places, you think i can haggle the 80 down to maybe 55-60? idk im going to try, if not theres a 2000 dak 5.9 qc 4x4 with only 78000 miles for same price about an hour away. The dealer specializes in no/bad credit. Im 21 and have none. I did get approved through one credit union...you think if i got approved for one place that another will approve too? any input would be great lol. Its 130 am and all i can think about are these two trucks..haha

just a fair warning about we college students and dakotas.

Your post count will increase by a power of 2 per day, and most of it will be "How can i change this or do that". I've had mine for 3 years and I'm still changing and thinking about things. And soon your truck budget will rival your school budget.

Can't help you on the credit thing, but DRG hit the nail on the head.

Look at the plugs and see how bad they are but its never a bad idea to change them anyway. As far as tranny only thing to do is reg fluid and filter changes.

You should be able to talk him down a little I think. That price seems a little high.

Most buy here pay here dealers are pretty firm on their prices, rather difficult to get then to budge. i have an 03 quadcab with the 5.9 absolutely love it except for the gas mileage but read all the posts on this forum and you won't find one praising mileage out of a Dakota...10.5-11 is all I see anymore. If ya get it I'm sure youll love it
