Good price for work done at shop?
Hey I'm new here and I hope to get some good advice about getting some work done on my Dakota.
I've got a 2000 Dakota 4X4 V8 4.7 club cab with canopy.
I'm running some 31/10.5R15 LT 109R Michelin XCX/APT Radial X tires on the stock 15 wheels.
I've got a quote from a local auto shop about getting some work done to my truck and I hope to get some good advice from you guys on whether or not this shop is quoting me a "decent" price for the work. I wish I had the tools and a garage to get this stuff done myself but I don't so I gotta go shop.
Anyway here's the roster:

if you need help doing spark plugs or any other maint. please ask. I hate to see you spend over a grand on stuff you can do yourself.
all you need for the spark plugs is a 10mm for the nut holing in the coil and a extension and a spark plug socket.

If you weren't so far from Washington State, Texas....I'd take you up on that. Living in an apartment right now and not having a garage sucks.
and yep, sending that email did **** them off.
the shop guy just gave me a call, to try and justify/flap his jaw...about how their service for the "raped" items were a fair price and how their book was saying at least and hour and change to do the spark plugs. the guy also tried to hook me in by telling me about how he had "already ordered the tail light because I told him to".
ended the call with "I'll just go somewhere else then"
it was obvious that they didn't want to work with me after this.
too bad for them, even thou they have great testimonials on their website.

I would suspect being told I was raping someone on price or accusing of raping.. or being called out on raping would **** me off too.. HA HA...
If you go to another shop.. dont be afraid to haggle them down off their price.. be like 90 bucks to replace a few bulbs for real? You can not combind that with other service and give me a discount.. stuff like that..
Mechanics are not cheap.. they are going to charge you well over what it's worth because frankly.. its either pay their price.. or do it your self.. or go somewhere else..
just try and talk to them.. and really think about your responses and how you word them.
Let them know your not some *** hole but at the same time your no idiot either.. If they want the work they will work with you some what..

I normally don't go thru all the hassle like this. I was really curious about all the shop's hype about being the best in town and etc. it's just that I keyed up on the fact that this shop depends and prays upon the lazy and uninformed and then has the gaul to talk to their potential customers as if they were stupid.
with all of that aside, I'm glad to be here and really appreciate that you guys do what you do. Now that I have a roster of some things that I am just too lazy to do for myself (mostly due to a lack of having a garage), I will see if I can haggle a decent price from a competing shop. The rest of the stuff, I will stab away at it while I have no rain here and there.
