is this normal wear or is this just soft tire compound. 99.9% of my driving is on paved well maintained roads. as you can see there are some pretty sizeable chunks missing. IMO this should not be happening for street use of a tire.

I have had some contact with hankook customer service with complaints of terrible traction and all they could recomend is their m/t for better offroad traction. I have an all-terrain which i would assume would be able to handle decent it all conditions.

am i just obsessing over nothing or what? opinions please.

They look like they are dryed out to Hell all those cracks in the tire shows that, its like they were a spare tire sitting under the truck for 10 years spare tires look like that.

If you got those in the last few years you got burned I think.

But Im no tire expert so maybe Im loony toony.

 

i bough the truck with them already on there pretty much brand new.

 

Look on one of your tires for the code. Go to the last 4 digits of it and the first 2 digits are the week it was made and the last 2 digits are the year it was made. Street use shouldnt be doing this unless its a old tire. My old bfg a/t's were through hell off road and they never chunked

 

they are only a few years old from the manufacture date. went out and checked. 9th week in 2008.

 

Hmm thats weird maybe they just make their tire with a softer tread compound for better traction. I was just reading up on them and a lot of the people say they wear fast and dont last long if you abuse them. There was also a couple other guys that said if you want a strong a/t to go with bfg.

 

better traction? i need to use 4x4 in the rain if i want to do anything over half throttle. the rear end gets sideways when i got wot at 60, in the rain. post the site where you read that^

If you read around you will get mixed reviews. Some say they are the best tire they ever bought while others returned them the next day.

 

My Nittos don't have a single chunk in them and I've used them on a lot of dirt roads and terribly maintained New England roads.

As for traction I can break them lose at 60 in the rain too. It's just the fact that they aren't a rain tire and there is no weight over them. That's going to happen with any all terrain. It can be kinda fun... until you try pulling out in front of someone and you won't go...

 

ahhh, ok, thought i was the only one. but yeah first few times you dont expect it and go to pass someone and then all of a sudden your rear end gets all loose. but still the chunking sucks.
