So why would a lock-right or whatever be weak? I'm considering on installing one in the near future. I drive mostly highway, putting on a good 500 miles a month. I do see lots of snow in Omaha, I do have 4x4 but also hate the one wheel peels. I also want at LEAST 3 wheel drive when im in 4WD mashing the gas pedal around snowy parking lots.

Hi Krowbar,
I personally think you should go for a GOOD lsd. No offence to you or your truck but a 2wd truck on street tyres like yours isn't going get very far off road, whatever you put in the diff.
A locker (any type) WILL effect the road manors, no matter what people say. As you've said that this is where it will be spending most of its time, you should accept the limitations and go for something that benefits you most of the time.
Just my personal opinion!

Where are you in OR? I think your truck looks familiar.

WAY south on the coast. Brookings, Oregon, small beach town...

The pic is from my crappy phone and doesn't show the tire detail well. They are actually Cooper All-Terrains, not street directionals or anything. My concern is that I will take my truck on mild trails to unload my Quad or dirt bike. If I am unable to climb up mild hills cause I have 1 tire powered I am gonna hate life! haha I hear SO many mixed reviews about lockers. My truck is an auto as well, so I heard lockers are less 'clunky' than in manuals.

I'm planning on going with a Detroit Locker in the near future as I also have just 2wd. I'll just have to re-learn the truck's driving habits with it installed, rear tire's may wear a little more, oh well.

I never said a locker doesn't effect road manners, just that it's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. Even on street tires it makes a huge difference, I rembember going camping with my friend who had an Explorer on street tires with an LSD and I had my Bronco II with mud tires and a locker. There was one hill that my rig woul walk right up, his wouldn't. We swapped my BIGGER mud tires onto his rig, still wouldn't do it, my rig would still walk right up with his SMALLER street tires.

I'm guessing they were both 2wd...? Why wouldn't his make it? Was it cause one of his tires was spinning or is it just cause Explorer's are heavier?

How bad do your tires "chirp" when going around corners...?

4wd, the hill lifted tires, therefore he was done.
Here's the video.

They only chirp if you make them chirp, easy on the throttle and it stays unlocked.

What about tires chirping or 'hopping' around corners. Pretty significant or not?
