Evap Code P0441, but no visible leaks and new gas cap. What could it be?
#11
Hello, I am a new user but did not want to start a new thread for the same problem.
I am getting a P0441 code and I think it is from the connector on the cannister. The connector is a right angle connector and has a large opening on one end that attaches to the cannister and two openings on the other end that connect to smaller lines. None of the parts stores around here have ever seen one. Anyone know where to get one without paying a fortune?

Question
I had a P0456 code forever, I replaced many hoses. I recently took my tank off and found air was leaking out where the fuel pump attaches. I fixed that leak and the P0456 dissappeared but now there is a constant smell of gas inside the truck. If the charcoal cannister was not functioning - not absorbing the gas fumes - would't I get a code from the evap system?
What else could be giving me the fuel odor?

Have any of you guys heard that it is bad to fuel your truck while it's running for the reason it can cause problems with the emission system? My light just came on again for like the 5th freakin time. P0441 again. I don't have any leaks at all and I'm fed up with buying new gas caps. I fuel with my truck running, but I never top it off.

Maybe you can help.

First off, if you have fixed the problem causing your P0456, a bad charcoal canister will not set a code. The system is primarily looking for a leak in the lines. The charcoal canister is vented to the atmosphere while running b/c the vacuum that is drawn on the system when the purge solenoid is activated will cause the canister to collapse on itself.
Your problem is more than likely a bad charcoal canister and usually you'll notice a rough idle, poor fuel economy and increased emissions when it goes bad because it has raw fuel inside of it instead of vapor. The best way to prevent this condition is when you're filling up your tank, when the pump shuts off, that's it; don't try to round up the next dollar, i.e. if it shuts off at $65.36, don't try to go to $66. Hope this helps.

sorry for hijacking this thread......

I do not try to squeeze extra fuel in the tank - I stop when the nozzle clicks out - always have since I got the truck. I do have very crappy mpg - about 10 in the city and that is driving like a grandmother. I guess I could get a new cannister and see if that helps. It sure is nice though finally getting rid of that CEL after 1.5 years!
