Default long block or short block

Hey guys... sad week for a fellow Dak owner. 01 QC... Sounds like she threw a main bearing. I have the pan off and the valve covers off, but we are unable to isolate the banging noise I have. All the rod bearings checked out out. Pistons are still in one peice. So my next quest is going to be getting a new motor for it. These things are expensive... anyone know of any good deals? LKQ has used for $1750 with 90 warrenty.. thats about as cheap as Ive found with a shop rate. Vin code N W/O EGR. 01 4.7L

was you using that thin oil they say to run? do the whole engine get ZDDPlus or red line engine oil break-in additive, for break in AND each oil change. the ZDDPlus is thicker, and i like it better. go to bob is the oil guy, site, lots of good tek info.

Describe the banging. Where's it coming from and how was the oil pressure.

Could it be coming from the torque converter?

If the damage isn't that severe, and so far it doesn't seem to be, have you considered a rebuild?

You don't really "throw" a main bearing. It would "spin" when it welds onto the crankshaft from lack of oil. You can "throw" a rod.

If your looking for a motor, the best place to look is ebay. That is where I got my motor for about 1900. Which was a 2006 H.O motor with only 16k on it

It's a 5 speed? The banging could be caused by a bad pressure plate.

Pull that tranny!
