Pinging when on the throttle
I have a 2002 Dakota 4.7 i just recently bought a superchips flashpaq. I had a slight pinging before with 87 octane. So i started running 91 or 93 octane and dont have a problem. Now when i Set the tuner to 91 performance or towing mode it Pings bad. I was wondering if any one could tell me how to fix the problem?
I actually just pulled out the plugs and they look somewhat new. they are champion 3318. the plugs do look alittle white on the lean side. is there some kind of adjustment? or are they the wrong plugs??

you need a plug at lest 1 heat rang colder 2 colder is better. also a plug with the spark gap closer to the base, its like turning the timing back. and opening the the gap .005 in will make the heat range took like it is 1/4 to 1/2 hotter.
I used to use a Superchips 3715 (I think!) programmer on my 4.7 and it also made mine ping. I thought it was because there's a difference between how they measure the Octane rating over here. I had to run mine on Super Unleaded (most expensive grade here) and it STILL occasionally pinged, so had to use Octane booster.
I think they run too much advance in their settings. I now have a SCT tuner with a Hemifever standard tune, which has been slightly modified for the fuel over here. definitely the way to go!
By the way, the 4.7 doesn't have a plenum gasket, just a plastic inlet manifold, although I have seen one that had got so hot that the plastic had started to deform.
