Post MAP and other sensors

I have read a lot of threads on the MAP sensor and how it can affect the engine performance so finally I installed a new one today and I’m impressed my Dakota runs better with the new MAP better acceleration from a stop no more hesitation and just an all-around more power feel to my Dakota idle has improved also.

So those threads were correct replacing the MAP is a good thing.

Been replacing all my sensors these last 7 months with great results every replacement.

This is my replacement list so far in order all from rockauto.com.

Upper O2 Bosch
TPS mid-priced model
Oxygen temp sensor mid-priced model
lower O2 Bosch
MAP mid-priced model

My next replacement is my IAC not a sensor but want to see if my idle improves even more.

I had to replace my Computer 4 years ago so luckily that’s over with and swapped my stock TB with the 4.0 TB and cleaned it just before I started replacing all my sensors.

Will replace my charcoal canister also as I can those are $110 a pop so it’s waiting.

My CAT a high flow and muffler are only 4 years old so that’s done.

I guess my fuel pump will soon be needed still the stock one at 13 years she is due.

98,

Lots of people have trouble with the Bosch 02 sensors in their Dak. You might consider another brand.

Default so far so good with the Bosch

So far so good with the Bosch yea I have heard that remember I have the 2.5 not the V6 or V8.

The ones I just replaced were the original ones and needed replacing as did all the rest of my sensors each replacement showed improvement.

I’m also thinking on new injectors at $35 to $60 a pop still thinking on that choice its about $85 to get them cleaned in car at a shop so why not new for a little more $$$.

What kind of idle problem are you having? I am trying to troubleshoot mine on my 98 5.2L Dakota Sport. Replaced most of what you have, except the MAP and Coolant Temp Sensors. Done the TPS, IAC, O2s, Rotor, Cap, Wires, Plugs, Thermostat.

Smile OK

Ok well first what was going on was some high idling not way high but a little high and sometimes a bit of surging then it would drop down and be ok.

I must say it’s only been two days from replacing my MAP and it’s been idling great but I also replaced my lower O2 last week and that improved my idle and power also.

So its idling great now I just think replacing my IAC is probably a good thing also but at $70 it can wait.

One thing I suggest is never toss anything you remove from your truck label it and KEEP it you never know it may come in handy at a later date.

Lightbulb I forgot

I replaced my Coolant Temp Sensor and thermostat two months back the top of the sensor was loose it would twist around so I decided it was going bad.

Grabbed a new water outlet same time it was getting eaten by the antifreeze.

I was thinking of replacing my sensors as well. I'm having a similar issue, idle a bit high then surges.

If your thinking of changing your injectors get some Jeep 4.0 ones. You can get them on ebay for pretty cheap. They might give you a little bump in power.

Wink Ok

00daksport25

I did see that somewhere a few months back about the 4.0 injectors do you have any model numbers or who makes them?

Maybe a ebay web link?

My Dakota is running great after replacing all those sensors glad I did it.

You never stop replacing things on an old car do you?

Still better and way cheaper than a new one every 3 or 4 years such a wast of money I say.

Here you go, this guy has done some pretty cool mods on his 2.5:

Part #53030778...i think

You could also probably go to a Jeep scrap yard and pick up a set.

Yea, that's the fun in having an older vehicle. If we didn't have to replace parts all the time then what fun would that be? lol
