Lift confusion
I have a chance to get a deal on torsion keys real cheap but am a little confused on them.
i believe some say not to do it because stress on the front end.
are cranking the torsion bars only going to lift the front?
if anyone could just give me a good overview on cranking torsion bars and torsion keys id appreciate it.
thanks

so basically the torsion bars are just to level out the front with the back correct?
i want to put on 33's so i was thinking of cranking them to be about even as you did than adding a 3 inch body lift...

With stock keys you will only gain so much, pretty much just leveling the front. But with cranked torsion bars you can fit 32's or with a 2in body lift and cranked bars you can fit 33's

Actually, you can only go up a set amount. I.e. where your upper arm hits the travel limit of your suspension. That being said, if your bars are 'tired', the re-indexing keys would be like putting a couple extra cranks on a clock spring, or window shade. basically giving you a new angle where the bolts start. I dont think they are really worth getting keys, but I'm not bottomed out on my adjusters either.

Getting new keys doesn't do anything for you. Just crank the T-Bars. I don't know how the Dakotas are set up but on the Durangos, we do 8 turns on both T bar bolts, and Chevy 2" lowering shackles for the rear leaf springs as out shackles are upside down to a chevy, thus lowering for them will lift for us.
