Weird problem with power windows
Just want to introduce myself as I'm a new member, just bought a 2000 dodge dakota quad cab with 76k miles on it. Needs a little work and a little rusty but at $2900 I couldn't pass it up.
Anyways onto my problem, the drivers controls for all the windows will only work for the front two windows. The rear windows will not go down from the drivers controls, and also won't work from the back either. Drivers door also makes a weird noise when locking, not sure if that has anything to do with that. The previous owner mentioned something about having to replace the relay in the drivers door. Just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas ? Thanks.

you might try putting one hand on each side of the window and pushing it down a little. my wife has a 98 dak and i got the passenger side stuck to far up one time. also does your truck have speakers in the doors?
I'll have to give it a try, yeah it does have speakers in the doors its the SLT. I forgot to add whatever is wrong with the power windows messes with the remote starter thats on it. The previous owner said that the truck tries to start but because of whatever is wrong in the drivers side door with the control relay switch or whatever it does not start and causes the alarm to be set off.
It sounds like someone messed up the wiring putting in the aftermarket remote start.
For the windows the switch in the drivers door may be bad, it's fairly common. If you can pull it out you can test it. All the doors share the same ground and power so it's unlikely to be that. It's also unlikely both door switches and motors failed.
Disconnect the connector. On the switch side put an ohmmeter on pin 4, tan wire.
Check for continuity on the following wires. Only one wire from each window will show continuity depending which way you move the switch:
Left Rear window up: Pin 13 red with black tracer.
Left Rear window down: Pin 14 dark blue with white tracer.
Right Rear window up: Pin 11 dark green with white tracer.
Right Rear window down: Pin12 grey with black tracer.
Now repeat the test using Pin 5, the 12 gauge black wire instead of Pin 4.
Left Rear window up: Pin 14 dark blue with white tracer.
Left Rear window down: Pin 13 red with black tracer.
Right Rear window up: Pin12 grey with black tracer.
Right Rear window down: Pin 11 dark green with white tracer.
NOTE: All of these pins will show continuity to Pin 5 when in the "neutral" position.
For the door locks, the relay is in the fuse/relay block under the dash. There are no factory relays in the doors.

a BIG guess. all the wires for the windows through the ignition switch. i have had a/c sys stop for that reason. after two switches in 2 years, i added a relay for that circuit. it was a pain to rig but saved the trouble.
Decided to man up and call my uncle who is a chrysler/jeep/dodge mechanic and had him take a look. He seems to think its a combination of something funky going on with the car starter wiring and lock mechanism for the drivers side being frozen up. Its going in pretty soon with him to have some brake work and a/c work so I'll have to report back after he tells me what is wrong with it.
Welcome to the forum...fairly new here myself...great wealth of info here on many topics. I've got a '00 QC dakota (and i love it); lot more miles than yours so excellent score with that price/mileage. I agree with 00DakDan, sounds like bad wiring...but I've seen some pretty "interesting solutions" for power windows after having opened up a few door panels at the junk yard and looking at the door mechanisms of a friend's used car purchases (seen tied cables, disconnected wiring, duct tape on the regulators, etc)...so you never really know until you get in there and look around. These trucks seem to be fairly easy to open up and work on ...even for newbie truck owners that are girls.

It was a pretty good score but I'm going to have to sink about 700-1000 when it goes into the shop with my uncle. Rear brakes and brake lines are being replaced, new ac condenser ac clutch kit, new drivers side lock assembly and checking into the wiring issue ( well worth investing the money though).
Will definitely be turning to this forum for some advice in the future.

Door relay going out is a "common" problem. They get dirty easy so possibly some contact cleaner will fix it. More likely you have a cracked circuit board though.
