Default What engine do I have ?

I don't see a sticker anywhere in the engine bay or in the glove box. How do I find what cu.in I have ?

2000 Dakota SLT Club Cab. (4 door)
V-8 engine - 4.7 or 5.9 ?

What's your VIN? Check the 8th character. N is the 4.7 and Z is the 5.9.

Or, if you see a distributor, you have the 5.9. The 4.7 has COP.

If you have 4 doors you have a Quad Cab. Character 7 should be an A for Quad Cab.

The regular and club cab both have two doors. There is a back seat on the club cab.

Great, I'll look at the vin # tomorrow. I really appreciate your information !

Is the 4.7 L the 318 cu. ?
and the 5.9 L the 360 cu. ?

318 is the 5.2 liter found in dakotas up to 2000. The 4.7 liter is its replacement found in dakotas 2000 and up. It is a much more refined motor, more power and better fuel mileage. The 5.9 is the 360 motor. I would be willing to bet your truck is the 4.7. Does it say R/T anywhere on it?

5.9 Notice how the air hat is round and on top of the engine.

4.7 its a square and mounts from the side not the top.

Also the 4.7 doesnt use a oil cap on the valve cover like the 5.9 does.

Fill this out and put your email and they will send you a build sheet for your entire truck in a day. You will know everything it came with!

Ok, with all your information, it's the 4.7 L.

"N" in the vin number.
Square hat.
No oil cap on the valve cover.

A search reads that 4.7 liter = to 286 cu.in ?

Yeah the 4.7 replaced the 5.2(318) Offers about the same power but added mpg.

Why the hell do these fairly small 4.7L engines get so bad with mpg ?
(A friend said,..because it's a Dodge)

A lot of the full size trucks get better mpg !
