odometer says "no bus"?

odometer says "no bus"?
hey my 99 dakota's odometer has said "no bus" since i bought it, nothing is wrong with it, truck runs fine, drives fine. everything electrical works, i checked the pcm, etc.. everythings working just wondering why it would say that? is there a way i can get rid of it? no codes stored also. strange.

as a matter of fact i do have a aftermarket stereo deck, but i have done the same in my old 3.9 dakota and didnt experience this issue. other then that the wiring is stock.

As long as you know the wiring is good and it wasn't some installer.
This may/may not work on a '99:
Try a cluster self-test. Key off, press and hold the trip reset button. While holding the button in, turn the ignition on, but don't start the truck. Continue holding it for about 10 seconds, CHEC should show in the odometer window.
It should display some error codes.

Try wiggling the ecu connectors in the engine bay that goes into the ecu.
When I got the "no bus" my engine would die and wouldn't start till i wiggled the ecu wire. On the 5.9, the circuit board would crack overtime causing the truck to not start. In your situation, it could just be a bad connection. Try cleaning the terminals off the ecu if they look like they have corrosion.
