1997 Dakota A/C lubrication
The compressor is the part that needs the oil and all manufactures say to fill the compressor with the needed oil so that’s what I would do. The rest you could just pour in to say the condenser before you bolt it in but you risk the oil absorbing moisture that way best is oil in compressor first connect everything then inject the rest of the oil with an oil charge moisture is not good in the A/C system it’s a no no if you know what I mean. Never open the compressor until you are ready to bolt together everything at one shot to keep any moisture out.
The problem is the oil is a moisture magnet it will absorb it fast.

00DakDan I dont know if you could add all the oil into the compressor at one time it may not hold all that oil. Thats why I just use a oil charge to get the rest into the system.
00DakDan do you think you can add it all into the compressor?

Ok. You guys put me on the right track and I finally found out how much oil my new compressor takes. It says to add 2-3 oz. of oil in the supplied port on the compressor crankcase. I added 2.5 oz.
It says I could add remaining system oil into to the accumulator.
Once I get this together I am going to pull vacuum on the whole system anyway, so does it matter if I just pour some into the accumulator or would it be best to inject it?
Is the oil canister pressurized for injection?
Thanks,

if you pour it in and quickly button it up you will be ok.

We don't have much humidity here in NM anyway.
Did you just inject it into the low side port?
The easiest way to inject oil:
Low side port before you put the refrigerant in. The vacuum will draw it in.
Engine off.
OR:
You can, if you have a bottle of oil, put the rest of the amount required in the accumulator before you evacuate it. It will work it's way through the system.

Thanks Dan,
Yeah, I have a bottle and didn't really want to buy more oil. That is what I will do.
Thanks, everyone! You have all been a big help!
