Default Weird rear Brake/ABS issue???

2001 Dakota QC 4x4 4.7 rear ABS
I have a strange issue. When turning either direction from a stop, the rear driver's side brake seems to drag then release. The wheel is free almost as soon as you straighten up. The problem is the same but the drag is greater if you engage the 4x4. Could this be ABS related? The wheel does not get hot when driving normally so I dont think the brake is stuck. Thank you.

RWAL only?

It's not likely ABS related.

The ABS doesn't control each wheel independently in the back. It's all or nothing. There is just the one flexible fluid line, and one speed sensor, for the back.

I think I know the feeling you're describing. If you have an LSD I think it's the clutch packs. I'd start off with a fluid change, with the additive.

Thanks Dan. ABS sensor idiot light not on but ABS definitely not working. Locked them up in the parking lot. I guess maybe I have an ABS issue as wel if the wheel problem is the clutch packs. As far as I can tell its only the drivers side but will have to figure out a way to confirm.

Is there an easy way to tell if I have an LSD or do I have to jackup the rear wheels?

What wheels locked? Front or back.

You should find a tag in the glove box. I think DSA is the code.

Rear wheels would lock up. They used to make the classic ABS pumping sound. Now they just lock up. I believe I only have ABS on the rear in this truck. Will check for DSA.

Thanks Dan

Don't forget the additive. Then do some figure 8's to get it worked in.

Does the ABS light come on during key on? Most scanners won't read the ABS codes.

Just took the truck back to my mechanic. We changed the gear oil last winter. He used anti slip gear oil but did not use additional additive. He is going to flush it with kerosene and put new gear oil with additive.

I will check the abs idiot light when I get the truck back.

I do believe you have diagnosed the rear growl issue. Thank you.
