Default 1999 5.2 motor pings

Hi there just bought a 99 dakota with 5.2 and when going up hills the motor pings how to fix? Thanks

Usually all you need is a higher grade of gas try one grade higher and see if that stops it it may take two full tanks before you notice the difference so don’t get frustrated the first tank if not try premium

Im not a V8 guy but I know the V8 guys always suggest a specific brand that works the best just wait some V8 guy will answer. Start a new post with that question so they see it.

There Magnums are notorious for bad intake plenum gasket leaks which can cause oil consumption as well as pinging under load. Look down inside the throttle body and look for oil pooling up. Here is a great link on it. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...um-thread.html

If the plenum gasket is good (which is doubtful) next would be getting colder range spark plugs. Autolite 3923 plugs are best for performance. Ask for it by part number.

Yes also premium grade gas will help.

According to TSB the excessive oil that builds up as carbon inside the cyl is what causes the pinging.. which is pre-detonation.. can also happen with hot spots on the spark plugs as well. Same thing can happen if your pulling too much oil from the PCV and Crank Breather.. into the engine.

so what do you think about c foam? would that help clean it out?
