Default Chewed engine harness options

I have a 2001 Dakota 4.7L. It appears a rodent has chewed through part of the cyl 1 coil pack, clip, and wire harness. What are my options for fixing this? Do I have to replace the entire engine harness, or can just this one cable be replaced somehow. Can I splice it safely? Please see the pictures...

Must have been a hungry rodent.

You can certainly splice it. I'd probably pick up another connector from the boneyard and splice it in. Just match the colors. Get a new COP.

On the rest of the harness, if there is only a cut in the insulation you can try some of that liquid electrical tape. It'll seal it up easier than tape.

Try some mothballs under the hood to get rid of the rodent too!

Thanks for the advice, Dan! I checked the inventory of my local Pull-A-Part and they don't have my model year Dakota in stock. Would you know what years or other Chrysler vehicles may be compatible?

I don't mind paying more at a part store if anyone knows the part number of the pigtail I'm looking for.

Last question. Is it safe to drive the truck with cyl 1 disconnected like this?

Default I think this is what you need

I think what you need for the replacement connector anyway is this (Capacitor Connector) look on rockauto for your year under (2001 DODGE DAKOTA 4.7L V8 SOHC : Electrical-Connector : Ignition Capacitor Connector)

I think this is what you need I bet a local dealer can get this also $46

From what I can find the coil is standard on most 4.7's. The connector should be as well. I would think that you could get it off of a Durango, even a Ram too.

98 has the ultimate solution.

Thumbs up

I struck out at my local Pull-A-Part. No compatible vehicles were found. However, I believe I found the pigtail at Advance Auto.

I stopped at two Advances on my way home and both clerks couldn't find any pigtails for my vehicle since the computer didn't come out and list it. I browsed almost every BWD pigtail on Advance's site before finding it.

It's a BWD Model PT5751 pigtail/connector. I should have the truck repaired tomorrow.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Yep! The connector on the truck is 3 prong, but only 2 are used. There's no wire for the 3rd connector.

Here's what a good connector on my truck looks like.
