HELP, parking brake release broken with parking brake left on
I just bought a 2003 dodge dakota quad 4x4, it has 80,000km's which i think is 50000 miles, the guy had all proof for every year on why is km's were so low. he just didnt drive it too much, he was old and didnt need to drive around. I checked car fax and the local ministry and his km's were dead on.
Anyways truck is amazing, love it, nothing wrong with it except when my brother in law drove it for a min and put the parking brake on, when we tried to release the parking brake we realized that the parking brake release handle is completely missing, there is a hole in the plastic where the release handle should be. I have had the truck for 5 hours and the truck isnt moving now because of this.
Please help. I looked at the parking brake pedal which is used to turn on the parking brake but i cant figure it out, i read on line that there should be a cable with it which i should just cut or pull out and that will disable it which will permanently disable the parking brake until i get it fixed.
I just need a quick fix (hopefully) just so i can move it and drive it to work and later to the work shop. Although i never use the parking brake so i might not get it fixed until later.

If you look under the dash you should see the parking brake assembly and should be able to get it released.
If you had to but I dont advise this you could cut the cable it runs under the cab to the back brakes there is a spot where it hooks into another cable you may be able to unhook it
But if you cut this cable Im not sure how hard it would be to replace that cable some of these parts are getting hard to find/replace
This place shows this release Rod as the needed missing part it is only the rod so you may need to make your own handle http://www.factorychryslerparts.com/...2078977AD.html

Dakaz probably has a good shot of that area, I know I don't. But IIRC, the pedal should have a ratchetting mechanism on the top side of it, and the handle just removes the pawl and the springs pull the pedal back up. You should be able to take a straightblade screwdriver, stick it in the pawl, and have an asst push the pedal down to unload the pawl, lift it with screwdriver, then asst allow pedal to come up.

Look at this http://www.in30.net/park.pdf
If you are lucky the pull cable may be just hanging back there grab with some plyers and yank hard
