2002 Dakota fuel efficiency
I just purchased a 2002 dodge dakota 4.7 AWD. Currently I'm getting about 16.5 to the gallon. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on how to improve my MPG. Is there anything I can buy to help it and if so how much is it?
Another one... there are thousands of great articles online regarding the best way to do this but most autos have a computer that dictates this the best way is drive efficiently no speeding around town this will save you more gas than any engine modifications your driving habits will save you the most on gas
You're just about right there with the mileage. It all depends on how you drive it. I find at 55 (lots of traveling in PA) I get about 19 sometimes 20 with my 4x4 5 speed. At 65+ 17.5 or so.
It's a truck, what more can I say.

My driving habits are pretty solid, I ended my speeding around town days back in high school. I have a 20 mile commute to work every day and pretty much stay at 60 the whole drive.. But the drive is on a road that changes speed and is a bit hilly. I'm just trying to see if there was anything that can be added to the computer that would help out
Well you could have opted for a V6, or a newer V8. Unfortunately in 2002 fuel efficiency wasn't the #1 priority. 16.5 is pretty good for an AWD V8 truck. My Durango weighs a bit more than your Dakota and I get around 14 in the city in 2wd. I'm also a speedy driver too though.
Keep doing whatever you're doing, 16.5 is pretty great. My 2WD extended cab 3.9 gets about 14 no matter how fast I'm going.

16.5 is great especialy since you got the AWD
I get 12 with 32" tires, superchips, CAI, full exhaust and I drive about 5+ mph over the speed limit, and take off average, maybe slightly faster than average

I believe the TCM swap works on the 02'. It takes about 10 minutes to do but it only improves highway speeds. I was average about 20/21 at 60mph with a 01' 4.7 4X4. In MD it's a bit hilly and I drive mostly city, so mpg didn't change much. If you want I have an extra I can send you for $50.
