Default Another fan belt question. 3.9 v6 2000 model.

I've had to replace my steering pump 3 times, it will leak around the pulley shaft. I have had the rack and hoses replaced and the next pump leaked again. Now i'm being told my belt might be too small. When I goto autozone they tell me there are about 6 sizes. As far as I know my truck has factory air since I don't know how to tell if its factory air or not lol. Any idea on a part number for a fanbelt? Any help would be nice.

You must be buying very cheap pumps for that to happen

The only belt lengths I see on rockauto.com are two 88.50 or 97.30 usually it’s with A/C or without A/C with A/C is the long one usually

The belt has no markings on it my belt is 6 years old and still shows the part # on it get that and cross reference it

If its slipping you may need a new belt Tensioner

Default Not slipping.

Belt isn't slipping. I even bought a new pump from dealer hoping its better than rebuild from autozone and it leaked. Tensioner is not clicking like when it's failing. I'm going to get the one I saw on rock auto/listed on oriellys. Oreilly only list one for my truck and its 97.811 outside diameter. If i'm right the one I got last was like 95 so it could be my fault. I wish my belt had the part number, I do know at one point i messed up and got antifreeze on it and that might have let it slip enough to rub off number.

I was lucky found a good used pump online at a junkyard claimed it only had 45K on it and it looked like it too very clean works great no leaks.

I flushed it out before I installed it and then flushed the system just to be sure used a cheap fluid then drained again and installed the good stuff.

Easy with the 2.5 engine power steering pump as it has an external fluid tank not easy with the V6 or V8 models

A possible problem could be you have too short a belt causing too much tension on the system and wearing out the pumps ASAP

Just something to think about it could be

About the leak, I'm curious as to what fluid you're running in the PS pump. Maybe that's the problem.

hey just measure it use a piece of string around all the pulleys minus the tensioner not too sure how much you add on for it in length but a good shop could help you out. had to by pass a seized ac compressor they ha it done in a matter of minutes.
