Question Shocks

I think it’s time to replace the stock shocks. They have 160k+ miles on them, are leaking a bit, and don’t damper as much as they should.

I’ve done a search and it looks like the Monroe Reflex shocks have a lot of fans. It looks like part numbers 911220 and 911140.

I’ll be driving the truck on the highway and off-road to pick up dead wood and fire wood.

Should I join the fan club?

Give them a try!

The only real way to know how you'll like them is to use them. Everybody does different things with there trucks and carries different loads.

Yeah. If I didn't hear anything otherwise I was going to give them a shot. If I get them I doubt I'll return them for a different type.

I had some kind of Monroe shocks on mine for a while (don't remember exactly which ones, but I don't think they were Reflex) and they sucked. The valving was really strange and they rode funny. I can't put my finger on exactly what it was, but they never felt right. YMMV.

It looks like Monroe sells Reflex and Sensa-Trac. Maybe you had the Sensa-Trac?

What did you end up doing?

Yeah, they might have been Sensa-Trac.

I just suffered with them until I put on my lift kit, then threw them away. The Tuff Country shocks that came with the kit felt MUCH better. In fact, I'm still using them with my SAS.

Shocks are very personal it’s what you want from them some like a stiffer ride that feels like it makes solid contact with the road.

Some like a softer ride that’s more for comfort

City and road driving will dictate what is needed or required also

OK, guess the Sensa-Trac’s are out.

I didn’t buy the truck new, so I don’t know how it felt when the shocks were good. I don’t want to get hammered from shocks that are too stiff, but I also don’t expect to be riding on marshmallows.

I don’t really know how the Reflex shocks will feel compared to my worn out shocks - stiffer I assume.

Like 98DAKAZ said, it's a personal preference thing. The Monroes kinda felt to me like they had too little compression dampening and way too much rebound. But I'm hardly an expert suspension tuner, so it's hard to say.

On a related note, I've never heard anything but raves about Bilstien shocks. I have no personal experience, though.

That does make it hard to understand what you want one good thing about the Monroe is you can take them back if you don’t like them just be sure on any return policy make sure it’s in righting as I have been burned by a few snakes that said no problem when return time they say a different thing and you are screwed.

I say buy try

take back if you don’t like

but try without installing any boots you could rip them removing those boots if happy install any boots

I had Bilstiens and loved them
