Default Bad Wheel Hub... Again?

Back in may I needed to replace my wheel hub. I replaced it with a cheaper brand from a place with good reviews and from what I can tell its fine, but I'm getting this ridiculous hum that is super loud.

I've jacked the truck up and their is no movement with the tire and I've also switched tires and had an alignment.

It gets louder with speed and disappears when turning (right if I remember correctly).

Can the hubs go bad with no signs of failure other than sound, or do cheaper bearings make a lot more noise?

Also could it be something other than the hub?

Thanks again.

My right side is going also. It is so load in the truck
You can't tell if if's coming from the front or rear of it.
But, if I turn hard right the sound lessons quite. Also,
I can feel it in the steering wheel less while turning.
NAPA has for my trhck; non ads wheel hub bearing
For $114.0). I would think it's higher quality than one
From auto zone or advanced auto. Doing mine next weekend.

Noise means vibration which means bad hub. You shouldn't hear a hum.

Which hub did you change last time? Sometimes it's hard to pinpoint which hub is noisy. If it goes away turning right it is probably the left hub.

I have a noise when i only turn one direction (left), we checked the right hub and it's fine, we think the caster/camber combination is rolling the tire and making it ride on the corner of the tread.

Try this as a check of each hub remove your tire and hand spin each hub

I know both my hubs are at that replace point because as I hand spin both my hubs they sound dry and gritty as they spin they are still solid no wobble but sound nasty

When I purchased my tires and had them installed I was told it needed a new driver side hub. Prior to this I don't remember any noises but there was play so I replaced it.

It is the driver side hub I'm sure. Extremely loud. Sounds just like this:

Super annoying and its not even a year old yet.

Dakaz,

I will pull the tires off this weekend and spin them by hand.

When you replace the hub, make sure it is torqued exactly to specs. Too tight is as bad as too loose.

I think many people crank them on too tight that will distort the races and cause premature failure at a fast rate.

This is one thing I just may pay a shop to do as I don’t have the proper tools for it.

This is good advice. If you want to go even one step further, remove the caliper and rotor. That way, the hub will be easier to spin and you can feel any roughness more easily.

This is also very good advice. Last November I had to replace my front hubs after only 14 months of use because I did not use a torque wrench to tighten the spindle nuts to the right specs. I had to buy two new hubs and 2 new spindle nuts. I also bought a good 1/2" drive torque wrench and torqued the nuts the way they should be done and my hubs are both still doing fine now. I bought my torque wrench at Advance, used an online discount code and saved about $20.00 on it. It's not a pro-quality, use it every day tool but it works well enough for me. The spindle nuts are a lot cheaper at Napa than at the Dodge dealer.
