'04 4.7 muffler options
I noticed my exhaust was rattling the last few days, turns out the muffler exit pipe broke off. The tailpipe looks fine...I'm guessing it's made of 430 stainless...it'll just need a hot wrench to get the exit pipe out and the clamp off.
So I need a muffler. I'd like to use an original Dodge low-restriction muffler from the '03 R/T. Does anyone know if the dimensions/hangers are the same?
Thanks in advance! Carl

You're probably better off just buying an aftermarket muffler. If you're not looking for something too loud the Hooker Aero is pretty good. It's what I have now. Pretty tame at idle, sounds good 3-4k rpm, and sounds good once you let off (if you have manual and can let it engine break...)
As to your actual question, I'm not sure, but you could always make it fit. Just might need add/weld in another little piece.
What part of Southern CT are you in? I lived in Preston for the first 23 years of my life until last June...

I'm in New Haven. I'd like to put in something stainless, that won't require any custom work. I wouldn't mind a more aggressive tone, as long as there's no drone. That's why I was leaning towards the R/T muffler.
A stock muffler has only one thing going for it they are quiet that's it oh they do have one other thing they are very large.
An aftermarket is the way to go most muffler company's have a direct fit replacement well most do you may need some piping work done.
I would go aftermarket, now the hard part finding one that sounds like you want.

To me the most important benefits of a stock muffler are that they are a direct fit, they don't drone, and they're usually made of low-grade stainless steel, so they tend to last a while.
I'm actually happy with the sound of the stock system. But if I'm changing the muffler anyway, I thought that if an R/T muffler would fit, I'd go with one. Supposedly they're a little throatier, but they don't drone.
Incidentally, if there's a direct fit aftermarket performance muffler available, I can't find it.

I had a thrush glass pack turned down in front of axle...very loud sounded good, too loud so to say took it off and grabbed a thrush welded muffler same sound, nice rumble at lower idle, nice thru the range, noticeable, but not too loud, when i open er up sounds just as loud as the glass pack..2/12 pipe v-8 4.7, oh and the drone is non existent..Just in case anyone was wondering i had to experiment.. in short GLASS PACK.. LOUD AND PROUD....WELDED THRUSH MUFFLER...DOESN'T SOUND LIKE A STOCK CAR TILL YA WANT IT TOO
Thats because they are so large as I said some piping will be needed for an aftermarket Muff have you looked for a direct OEM replacement its probably just as hard to find

The hooker areo is prefect for what you're looking for. It's got a nice tone but zero drone what so ever. It's not super loud like a super 44 or glasspack or anything like that. Too quite for most people looking for an aftermarket muffler, but I think it's exactly what you're looking for...
