oil pressure problem

Default oil pressure problem

i was turning around in my friends drive when i put it in reverse my check gages light came on and my oil pressure was at 0 then after like 10 seconds it shot back up to normal any thoughts

the oil level is fine could it be the oil pump sensor

If the oil level is OK but the gauge is not reading right it may be the sending unit is bad. Dakota's are kind of known for wonky oil pressure sending units. You can connect a mechanical oil pressure gauge to be sure if yours is bad. Mine was reading sluggish and erratic not long ago. I replaced the sending unit and it has been doing fine ever since then. I used the Echlin unit from Napa, on something like oil pressure it is best to use good quality OE grade parts. It cost about $35.00, plus I bought the special oil pressure sending unit socket to R&R the sending unit.

yea it only happens when i go in reverse and then when im drivin normally it the gauge doesnt move at all aven when i put the pedal to floor

my check gauges used to come on until i changed the sender above the oil filter

Yes. It's an oil pressure sending unit.
