Which would be the best traction device?
I will be moving up to 35's on my 2wd when I get moved to full time next month after i put on my front end mid travel kit. and I amd switching to 4.56 gears and putting in a locker or limited slip. I cant decide... I can get this http://www.ringpinion.com/b2c/Produc...rce=DiffWizard or this http://www.ringpinion.com/b2c/Produc...rce=DiffWizard. I do a lot of daily driving but im not worried about chirpin tires on a tight turn. i just know i will be hauling a small trailor with 3 dirtbikes about once a month and thats it. fully locked or limited slip?
I have had (on various vehicles) two Auburns, a Detroit Locker, a Lock-Right, a Spartan Locker, some other lunchbox locker (EZ-Locker?), a couple of factory clutch-type limited-slips, a spool, and a Yukon Dura-Grip.
The Auburns were great. Good traction, excellent street manners, and I never broke one. The Detroit Locker was freakin' awesome. Totally unbreakable and unbeatable traction. It was a little quirky on the street, but totally livable. The worst one, by far, is the Dura-Grip I'm running right now. It works fine, but it sounds like the rear end is full of rocks. I've tried conventional oil, synthetic oil, 90 weight, 140 weight, different additives, etc. It still sucks. I'm probably going to end up replacing it with the Detroit I should have bought to begin with. I've already spent more on oil than I saved buying the Yukon.
BTW, the EZ-Locker (or whatever it was) lasted about a year in the back of my Chevy. I don't think I would ever use any lunchbox locker in a rear axle again. They seem to work fine in front axles (ran a Lock-Right in a Blazer with 36" tires for years with no issues and am running a Spartan locker in my front axle right now), but just don't hold up under everyday use (my experience only, YMMV).

Thanks! I appreciate the comments. I think i will end up goin with the Auburn. But this will be in a few months so i mat change my mind. I just wanted some input. I know Auburn is always good. I just seen some bad reviews about the Spartan.
I was going to get a Lock-right, but talking to our axle sponsor/local jeep fabricator (BaerTrax), he said I'm best off with an clutch-type limited slip lunchbox locker (I think auburn). I would have gone detroit when i did the gear change, but i was tight on cash, so having to cheap out this time.

In off-road situations where one wheel has zero traction (like when it's up in the air), you can't beat a locker.
I bought the Yukon Dura-Grip because I was a little tight on cash and it sounded pretty good, but I'm kicking myself for not just buying the Detroit Locker that I really wanted. Hell, I would have been way happier with an Auburn and I would have actually saved money.
sweet. yeah i wont touch the rear end till i get the 35's. but i was just lookin online and thought i would get some input.

Locker without a doubt, LSDs will not help in many off-road situations.
FWIW, I have a Powertrax No-Slip in the back of my truck with over 75k miles on it, daily driven. I did remove the syncrhos from it so it behaves like a standard locker though.
I have Aussie lockers front and rear in my Bronco II, no problems with either but only maybe 10k on it. I did have a used Lock-Right in the stock rear axle and probably put a good 40k on it, until I broke the cross-pin (not the lockers fault).

Im running the Auburn Pro LSD in my Camaro and its a lot more aggressive than the regular Auburn, You can feel it on a hard lock turn, I beat the heck out of it, have a real aggressive trans that will lay out rubber on the 1-2 and bark the 2-3 shift so it gets hammered. Always does what its suppose to, got twin tire fire.
I have the OEM Mopar LSD in the Dakota, When I swap to 4.10's I'm going Auburn Pro in the back and the regular Auburn up front.

I got a Regular Auburn put in mine when the 4.10 gears went in. I don't do serious off-roading, more like trails and the odd muddy field but the Auburn works well. Much better traction and unnoticeable on the road.
I see that you're thinking of putting something in the front axle. I'd love to be able to that but that's the ONE downside of the AWD system. Can't put any type of LSD/Locker in the front axle. :-(
