98 Dakota cummins 3.3 build
I have been gathering parts for some time to do this build and its time to pull the plug
98 2wd Dakota ext cab manual trans slt
the tranny on my Dakota locked up so I figured now is a good time to get started
what I gathered
Cummins 3.3 fresh build form a student at a tech school in PA
adapter kit for trans from Phoenix conversions in Nebraska
transmission from a v8 Dakota needed the bell-housing bolt pattern
the rest of the stuff fuel pump filter inter-cooler motor mounts misc fittings from our old friend EBAY
below are a couple of links one is where I post my pictures and the second is the engine running before I bought it

Only thing is its gonna lack a little bit in the power department. The 3.9 cummins is a popular choice for swaps. Them being a baby brother to the 5.9 makes them a decent motor that is very reliable. Either way it will be a different swap and will be a fun project! Keep us posted and take TONS of pics

You sir have just gave me a reason to keep my single cab dakota, i totally forgot about the 4 cylinder cummins, i think the 2.5 jeep engine isnt strong enough, but one of these would be interesting in a Dakota... i may seriously consider this after i get my accord & RF900 finished..
Lots of pics plz

there are several reasons I didn't go with a 3.9
the height of that motor is the same as my 5.9 so I would either have do a body lift or some other radical modification or have a 8" hood scoop
I don't believe that I would be able to achieve the fuel mpg i am shooting for
this is an industrial engine so they are known for better fuel consumption than their on the road counterparts and i could use a stock Dakota trans otherwise I would need a nv4500 now we are talking about tunnel mods also
believe me I researched both engines for weeks before i bought this one
