Default Engine won't stop accelerating...Hits Max Rpm as soon as you turn it on

I have a 99 Dakota rt that I was driving a little bit a go and my gas pedal got real loose and the engine started to redline and it felt like the gas pedal was pushed down all the way. What is wrong? anyone have help!! I cant turn over the engine because as soon as I do it will start to redline and also spin the tire and lose control.

I need to find out this problem quick or at least find out what is wrong

I don't really see anything wrong with the pedal but the cables are somewhat loose from what I can tell by looking

Check the throttle body and see if you can close the throttle blade manually. Remove the air hat so you can see the blades. The gas pedal shouldn't be loose.

Do you have cruise? Disconnect it.

A vacuum leak can allow it to run fast but it'd have to be a big leak and it shouldn't cause the gas pedal to be loose.

Check to make sure your throttle plate isn't sticking.

On an engine I picked up I noticed that the lever can actually get wedged between the fuel rail and intake. I don't know if the PO assembled it wrong but opening the throttle plate by hand would sometimes get stuck on the fuel rail.

Put the truck in neutral BTW the tires shouldn't be spinning out of control like you say. As far as I know you can't start the truck in drive or reverse.

I found the problem I believe. I took off the k&n air intake and found that part of it cracked and got stuck in the one throttle blade. so I took the plastic piece out and started the truck up and the problem was gone

Glad you found it. Do you have ALL the broken parts? I'd hate to see something go through the intake and take out a cylinder.

I found a piece last night and I saved it and took the piece I found today and matched it to the intake so I believe I have all the parts and pieces. now I have to buy a new air intake, any suggestions or are all intakes about the same
