Unfortunately, that sounds like a blown head gasket or cracked head. Did it overheat prior to the water pump? The smoke you described sounds like coolant burning. Check the oil, does it look milky or contaminated?

Pump must have been bad or it was installed wrong.
Your temp must have started out ok why didn't you pull over as you saw the temp get high?
Never assume any new part is good I always inspect any part I get look for any defects/cracks or discoloring if a moving part see if it does what its suppose to do before you install it.
It sounds like you just burned the engine up
I have seen bad new batteries, radiators, rad caps, oil filters, clamps, tools, shocks, pinion gears, bearings, A/C condensers, tires the list is very long.
Especially now that 99% of all parts come from China

Did you burp the system?
Burp means make sure all the air was out of the cooling system this can cause the cooling system to not function at all depending.
Always check any new water pump or radiator after install with the rad cap off run the engine till you see the thermostat open and watch the coolant flow.
An air pocket can cause the coolant to not flow.
