autozone took the old axle for a core.

Anyone know for sure if they moved the c clip position on these? It looks like its to far out and that may be the problem. Either way it ate up my stub shaft....winder if autozone will pay for the new stubshaft.

They did change them, between 9/11/00 and 9/12/00. Of that I am positive.

Prior to 9/11/00 it was a 1 5/16" deep from the end of the "female inboard housing."

What year is your Dakota? It is also possible that it was assembled from the incorrect components or mismarked.

Pretty bad when you can pinpoint the day that things switched over.......

Not really.

Check Rockauto and they have the change over date listed.

yep autozone gave me the wrong one, wich in turn ate up my splines on my stub shaft, so know the dealership charged me 100 bucks for a new stubshaft and had to order a new cv shaft. autozone wont pay for the stubshaft either and they took my core so now im out 150 bucks on a new cv shaft!!!!
