Default Power Windows

My 16yr old has a 200 Dakota R/T 5.9 since are last hard cold spell his widows have stopped working. Wanted thoughts on what the problem might be. Prior to the cold snap the windows worked. Which would be the more likely issue, the fuse, or the main window control unit on the drivers door

Welcome to DF. I would start with the fuses and go from there. May need to lubricate the tracks. Moving to the 2nd gen Dakota section.

2 or 4 door?

Can you verify the year, it didn't come through. If it's an '00 or '01 at least there is a circuit breaker for the power windows, no fuse.

It's a 2000 Dakota R/T 4dr. 5.9L. I checked the fuse in the interior fuses panel and its good. If there is a circuit breaker where would I find It?

Thank you,
D

It should be a circuit breaker in the interior fuse box, #20. It's 25 amp.

Another quick check for power, easy in the dark. Turn the key on or start the truck. The window switches should light up, there are little led's in them. You don't need to turn on any lights, they come on with the truck.

Assuming those are OK, it's most likely the drivers control switch. If you can access the switch make sure the connector is tight.

You can check for power at the 12 gauge tan wire, pin #4 on the connector. The ground is the 12 gauge black wire, pin #5. The 14 gauge wires go to the respective doors. Pins 6 (white) and 8 (light blue) are the drivers door. As you move the switch on the panel it should change polarity. The connector pin-out is attached.

Does it work with the master switches and not any other switches? If so it's a common issue with the window lockout switch going bad in the master switch. There are two options to fix this, should it be your problem.

Thanks for all the info. I believe that I may have to just go ahead and replace the main window control switch on the drivers door. This is a very cool place to find out things about his truck. Next thing is to see what we can do to get a bit more gas mileage.. LOL. Engine has been rebuilt and a cool air intank was added. Lot of motor for this truck and a 16yr old.

You may have a clogged cat with a blown plenum gasket. Common issue with the 5.9 from all the threads about it. I also remember reading about a death flash, but that may only be a 2nd Gen Ram thing.
