Hey guys, one end of the OEM muffler on my '04 rusted out, and with only the front hanger supporting the muffler, I know it won't be long before the front end rusts through and breaks off.

Since the pipes seem to be made of T430 stainless, I think I'm just gonna replace the muffler. I'm happy with the sound of the stock system, I just want something that will last.

I can't seem to find anything stainless in the right configuation. Anyone here replace their muffler and keep the stock pipes and hangers? Can you let me know what you used?

Most muffler shops have the bending tools to make a system for you. But as far as the stock hangers. You may end up replacing then with what the shop has.

 

I just put on a magnaflow universal muffler as they are light in weight and sound good and not too loud. Inside cab noise with them are not bad either at highway speeds.
Search magnaflow.com for universal mufflers they have the dimensions on there. Measure your muffler length first.
I bought mine from ebay but got part number from magnaflow.com

 

NOt trying to hijack this thread.. but im curious....

i recently lost the tail piece of my exhaust it rusted out from the tail of the muffler.. so im curious since i still have the muffler and that hasnt rusted do i really need to add the ext. of pipe to run it out like stock form ? should i worry about muffler fumes ? coming into cab since its now halfway under truck ? just curious..

We can't see your exhaust system, so making any sort of judgement would be uninformed. I would suggest that you take the truck to a muffler shop, get it up on a lift, and get an estimate to get a replacement tailpipe. Caution with exhaust systems is warranted, carbon monoxide can mess you up.

 

I Replaced my muffler with a thrush glasspack. sounds awsome. and they have a 2.5 inch to fit original pipe. just cut off the old muffler. and stick it on and clamp it.

 

Out of curiosity, what are the main differences between glasspacks and tradicional mufflers, aside from the obvious ones?

 

As long as it still exits under the bed, you will be fine. Law says it has to be past any passenger compartment. Plenty of people dump their exhaust right after the rear axle, or come out in front of the rear tires.

 

Glass packs are loud.. Traditional mufflers are not.

 

basically, glasspacks are not mufflers. They are perforated pipes wrapped in material, then sheathed with an outer pipe, then sold as "mufflers".
