2-nd gen Dakotas are very strong they can take a pounding and still have good Bones to rebuild from you may be surprised.

It depends more on your insurance company than can it be fixed.

Wow. Glad you're OK. did the airbags deploy?

Can't tell from the pics how bad your Dakota is. I dare say you probably fared better than the other guy getting hit in the side.

My guess is they will not total it. Air bag deploy does add about $1k.
I hit an older Buick LaSabre in the rear and pushed the bumper and trunk lid in about even with their wheel wells. The only damage i saw on the truck was the front bumper tilted down and fluid leaking, i drove it home about a mile. The grill was not even cracked, but did have to get trans. cooler and radiator.

Nice punch. That b**ch deserved it. Lol. How's you neck and back? Looks like your hurting quite a bit. Loss of the Dakota can cause some stress. You should look into that. I see therapy in your future. Lol.

I can attest the the skeletal structure of a 2g dakota.

My wife clipped a telephone pole. Ruined the fender ,headlight, grill and bumper. No frame damage or airbag deploy (Afaik mine are working ). 9 months later I had a pair of milk cows slam into the side of the truck. Took out other fender, cracked the windhield broke off the mirror, dinged up the door, cab, and box. Still no frame damage.

Planning on rebuilding it now...

Things I've learned about the Dakota since I've owned it. It needs consistent maintenance, the suspension could be tougher (that's solely my opinion), the frame is sound and can take air time, the truck is small enough that you can do stuff big ones can't and the ground clearance is more than adequate. There are moment when this truck will surprise not just myself but everyone around me. Like when a 2011 F-150 rear-ends me at a stoplight and loses his front bumper and myself and the truck are both uninjured. You can say the truck is a tough little SOB.
