Very Odd rear end noise while making Left Turns.....
#93
Basically the mechanic miss ID'd the rear end and didn't put in the Friction Modifier. Took it back in this AM. They redid the job to include adding in the Friction Modifier (which BTW they didn't have and had to special order/deliver in). The mechanic showed me there is NO physical damage visible to anything inside the differential.
The owner had the gall to Charge me and additional $31 for the Friction Modifier. I was dumb enough pay. (Kicking myself now....)
Thing that really sucks is the rear end is still making the same grinding/crunching noises. Obviously, the LF clutch pack on the axle is bound up. Probably worn out clutches on that side.

I have not driven the truck very much (50 miles or so) since the diff oil was changed out (to include the Friction modifier).
On last drive around, I noticed a marked DECREASE (not totally absent) in crunching/grinding noise emitting from the Left Rear axle! Much less noise.
Perhaps the rear end clutches needed time to absorb some Friction Modifier. ????
Perhaps the Friction Modifier from the old diff oil was worn out. ???

re changing out your Rear Diff fluid yourself
Just be sure to add the antislip package ..My garage uses fluid with it already added...Chrysler charge for the extra package
I had a GMC Jimmy (1500) that would creak and groan when the ant-iislip additive was getting old.
Sorry guys..didn't see all the replies after the original post..answers were fight on from my experience

So if the friction modifier in my truck's diff was old or NOT even added in the first place (from Previous owners), then WHY would only (1) side be affected ?
