Default 98 Dakota 3.9 Stalls

Hi. New member here.

I recently bought a salvaged 98 Dakota with 174k miles. The truck needs a lot of work but the one thing I really need help identifying is the stalling issue.

The issue is intermittent at best. The truck stalls when idling. I took it to a shop and they tried to tell me it was the clutch but I am not having any issues with shifting, putting in gear, etc. The stalling seems really random. Since I don't know much about these trucks, is there anyone who might be able to give any insight as to why this might be happening?

Thanks.

3.9L V6 5-speed. Base model 2wd, standard cab, long bed. Has a brand new alternator and replaced the 80A fuse while I was at it. Starts like a champ every time.

Welcome to the forum.

Take the throttle body off and clean it, especially the IAC passages.

Throw some wire ties around the PCM plugs. Cheap and easy, see if it helps.

Thanks Ill give that a go.... Im not very handy when it comes to this stuff though... Difficulty on a scale from 1-10 for someone with little Mopar experience?

With regards to the PCM, are you suggesting it might be only a connection issue?

My truck has been stalling intermittently and i've found jiggling the pcm connectors will make it stall on cue. this might be your problem. I also have backfiring and auto shutdown like it wont start after this. does that sound about right?

Not really. I haven't had any backfiring, and it usually starts right back up. Sometimes it takes a few cranks but it always gets running again.
