Default Help with Passing DEQ Please!

Hi, I've got a 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab Sport, 6 cyl Manual transmission with about 101k miles on it. This is in Oregon.

I've been trying to get the truck to pass DEQ testing for a bit now, with no luck. I've done general OBDII drive cycles to it, as well as a specific Chrysler one I found online somewhere a while back. The engine light is off, and when I had a guy from an auto parts store put a diagnostic computer on it he said there were no codes.

Each time I've taken it in to be tested, it comes back with Evap, O2 Sensor and O2 Heater UNREADY

This last week I've put 200 miles on it and its still failing. Any help or pointing in the right direction would be appreciated.

I've had it since 2004. I haven't driven it that much for the last couple of years (Oregon is testing every 2 years).

I haven't done anything to 'fix it' because there is nothing saying that it needs to be fixed. It runs great, idles great, and I've been doing drive cycle testing to it. I've done 200 miles of driving on it in the last week, both freeway and city miles, about 50/50.

Okay. So how do I get it to go closed loop? I idle it for 5 minutes after starting, which is supposed to do it. Is there something else I can do?

The one thing I noticed more than anything is replace the cooling system Temperature Sensor cheap and worth a try.

Thanks for that link! I've been checking into that aspect of it, and I'm thinking it's got something like that going on. Today I'm going to disconnect the battery to reset it, clean up the battery posts (one is corroded and I want to make sure it's solid) and do another drive cycle and miles to it this week. If it fails again I'll take it into a shop to check the sensors, PCM and thermostat. I hate to do that, but I live in an apartment and can't do much more than add oil without people freaking out here.

Heck just pull on the street and swap out the temp sensor should be easy or even any auto supply store usually lets you do simple stuff like that in their parking lot just don't leave a mess for the store to clean up.

Make sure the engine is cool before just removing a sensor in a system that is under pressure.
