Default Lost Key Fob

I have a 2004 Dakota XLT with electric door locks. One of the keys with the key fob was lost. I would like to know if there is a way to re-code the remaining fob so that the lost one won't work. This is not a system that has a chip in the key. The fob will lock/unlock the doors without the key present. My user manual doesn't say anything about doing what I need.

You can try this. It is supposed to erase all the FOB's. You need one working to start the procedure though:

1. Close all doors.
2. Turn the ignition key to RUN, don't start the truck.
3. Press and hold the unlock button on the FOB.
4. Now, hold the unlock button and then press and hold the panic button.
5. Release the buttons. You should hear a chime. This indicates that you are in "program mode."
6. Press and release the lock and unlock buttons, at the same time, on the FOB.
7. You should hear a single chime. Press and release either lock or unlock button - within 4 seconds of the chime.

Repeat for additional FOB's.

It stays in "program" mode for 30 seconds after the chime.

If that doesn't work y
ou'll need to see a dealer.

According to my owners manual, that is the process for programming new fobs to work with the vehicle. What I would like is a way to change the coding for my remaining fob, if possible, so that the lost fob won't work. I called the dealer and they were really confused. They kept insisting that the key had a chip and wanted to charge me $63 for a new key.

I understand what you're asking. The above is "supposed" to clear all the FOB's and that is why you need to reenter them all after doing it. Since you don't have the lost FOB it won't be accepted after you're done.

Your dealer is thinking you have a SKIM key. You don't.

What if you only have a "2 button" remote like I do...no panic button?

It's different for your '97.

RKE Programming.

1. Locate the dark green wire that connects to pin 1 in the OBD port under the dash.
2. Connect a jumper wire from the pin to a good ground.
3. Turn the ignition switch to "RUN", don't start the truck. The locks will unlock and then lock.
4. Press either button on the FOB. The locks will cycle.
5. To program another FOB, press either button on the FOB. The locks will cycle.
6. Remove the jumper wire.
7. Turn the key to "OFF".
8. Test the FOB's.

I do not have "any" wire in pin 1 of obd, just a green one in pin 6

Yeah, I don't see it in your pics. Those are generic instructions for the earlier FOB's.

Looks like a dealer or locksmith.
