Default ABS light and Brake light

First post here.

2004 Dakota 4.7

Sometimes both the ABS and the brake light comes on. I've gotten a code once before about low brake fluid.

The fluid is full and it's a new master cylinder with a new fluid sensor.

I tested the pigtail and I'm getting 5v reference.

I've unplugged the sensor and the lights stay on.

Do you think it's a bad switch? It's new. But it is aftermarket.

I guess I'd also like to pint out sometime when I start my truck there is no lights. Like normal. Sometimes I'll start and the lights stay on. But if I turn off my truck and restart the light will stay off.

The system is supposed to "self-test" at start and if it detects a fault it trips the ABS light.

You may need to have the code read. If the ABS light is on there should be one stored.

You need a scanner that can read brake codes to do that.

Well like I said. I get a low fluid code. But the reservoir is full

Which ABS do you have, 4 wheel or rWAL (rear only)? On RWAL, there is a sensor on the RWAL/proportioning valve. Has a 4 wire connector for the solenoids and the sensor. You may have a faulty RWAL module if so equipped.

What code are you getting? How? Via a scanner?

I'd still pull the ABS codes.

I have a 1999 2 wheel drive, auto trans. Both the ABS and Brake lights come on. If I turn the ignition key to start, but not far enough to engage the starter, after a second, they both go out, and stay off. Strange, but it works. Just my two cents.

That's normal Oz. The ABS system self tests at start up.

What I meant was that I do this while going down the road, while the engine is running.

My 98 Dakota started doing this about 6 months ago start her up and go abs and brake dash warning light stays on.

I found if I pull over shut down wait around 5 to 10 seconds start back up everything is ok no dash warning lights. Dosent always happen sometimes for months its on off.

Im guessing abs/speed sensor on rear Diff is sticking going bad
