Between 95 and 96 dodge moved the balance weights for the 5.9 from the torque converter to the flex plate.

If both trucks are 96 or newer, you need to use the flexplate for a 5.9 on the 5.9 engine. It is externally balanced, and the weights are on the flexplate.

Yup. Bolt right in, hook right up.

Default Tranny options

I have a 1997 Ram 1500 RWD with a 5.2. I will need to replace the transmission soon and want to know what I can swap in from another Dodge.

You have a 46RE trans, so, pretty much any other 46RE from 96 to 99 trucks/vans (that are also RWD) should bolt right in, and hook right up. Doesn't matter which engine it is behind. (5.2 or 5.9, but, NOT the 3.9)
