Yes, they are reliable trucks and it will tow that weight without any issue. Of course, like with any other used vehicle, prior maintenance is the biggest factor. Since you're buying an SLT, it should have a tow package, which means it has a tranny cooler up front. Should also have disc brakes all around and the 545RFE tranny is very reliable. There will also be a connection for trailer brake module, under the dash. The 4.7L does not take well to overheating, so be sure to pay attention to any coolant leaks, fan issues, etc. Be sure to change the diff fluid and the ATF.
I'm at 274K on mine and it's my daily driver. Almost feels like Japanese car reliability, but Dodge gas mileage.

It tops out at around 6,200 lbs. I'v e towed cars on 4 wheel trailers with no issue. Don't know much about the 07.

You will really love the utility of the quad cab. Once you flip up the rear seats, you have loads of interior room, along with the bed of the truck. Makes it a very versatile vehicle indeed. I personally never cared for the looks of the 07. IMHO, Dodge knew it was going to shelve the Dakota and the design showed it. Good luck with the test drive. Bring a large piece of cardboard and run one side of the truck up on a high curb. Get under it with a strong light and check for leaks! Gas it hard in place and look for any smoke coming out of the exhaust. Tranny should shift almost imperceptibly. Also bring along an OBDII code reader and check it for any codes. People will hide things and the last you want, is something like a catalytic converter code popping after you've signed on the bottom line.
