Throwing in the towel today. I can't get the lower one to budge laying on my back, even with a hammer. Top one came loose with some persuasion.
The boss has ramps or I'll take it to work Monday and lift the front with a fork lift and set it on some jack stands.
All this for a friggin leak!

The pump on the 2.5 is not the same as the pushrod V8's. It uses the same pump as the *.7 engines.

That nut on the pump does *NOT* move. It should be brazed to the oriface fitting, which in turn should be brazed to the pump body.

The pressure hose should unthread from it with an O-ring seal. It's (supposed to be) 15 or 16 mm, 1.5 pitch Saginaw threads.

I was able to loosen that top nut with a few taps of a rubber mallet on the wrench. I ended up tightening it back down when I couldn’t get the bottom nut loosened.

The hose and the male fitting should come out of the pump, leaving the female fitting in the pump as shown in my photo above.

Took my truck into the dealer for an oil change and the notes in the Multi-point inspection said "Appears to be a leak from the power steering gear."
Okay, I was hoping that replacing the hoses would take care of the leak. Is the power steering gear something else I need to look at? I still have not replaced the hoses. Local mechanics want $100 - $170 to do it, even though I have the hoses!
Anyway - what's the power steering gear?

Yeah, that's the steering rack that your hoses connect to......

So it could be possible that it could be the hose? I know on the pressure hose where the rubber goes into the metal fitting, there’s a little bit of wiggle on the hose itself. Not where it fits into the rack but where the rubber hose fits into the hose fitting.

Need to clean everything off really well, drive it for a day or two, and then see where it's wet.

What HeyYou said. Best bet is to hit the quarter wash, and spray down the whole K-member, rack included. Get all the old road grime off so you can identify any new leaks.

The rack itself should not leak unless a seal has failed inside the bellows on each end.

Okay, will do. Good to hear that the rack itself shouldn’t be leaking. I’ve got quarters for tomorrow. Oklahoma August weather shows no precipitation and temps at or above 100 so moisture from the atmosphere shouldn’t be a concern. Thanks guys.
