Default Engine swap?

Anybody have any write-ups on swapping a 3.7 out of a 2004 Dodge Dakota? I have a very rough running truck my hunch is its a head gasket. Im prepping myself for an engine swap. I want to swap it out with another 3.7L engine. Any advice as far as years to consider?

thanks

The 3.7's were introduced in 2004. Last year for the 3.9's was 2003.

To the OP: why not just do a top end rebuild? Are you doing the work yourself or having a shop do it? Also, what are the symptoms you are having? It could be something simple that is causing the problem.

I totally agree. I am going back and forth with rebuild. Might not be that much more $ to swap it though. Also could be something simple don't know yet. I'm going with my gut feeling on this. Been around this truck long enough. Engine would need to be pulled anyway for oil pan gasket. I would do the work and swapping is almost easier.
