Exclamation check gauge light on and no oil pressure

I have a 1999 Dodge Dakota Sport V6/ The check gauges light comes on, and the oil preesure gauge drops to zero. I just replace the oil sending unit a couple days ago. This will happen, then suddenly go back to normal. How do I fix this?

Did you use an aftermarket sending unit? Does the engine make noise when it drops to zero? Have you put a mechanical pressure gauge on it?

Default Need help

i bought an aftermarket from Oriley’s. Engine does not make any odd noises. The check gauge light comes on, then oil pressure gauge bottoms out. Now it comes on then back off again. I just put the new part on two days again. No I haven’t put a pressure gauge on it yet

I would put a mechanical gauge on it, and see what oil pressure is REALLY doing. If the mech gauge says things are hunky-dory, replace the sending unit, again. (just because it's new, does NOT imply that it actually works.)

The aftermarket units can be sketchy. I paid roughly $25 for a Mopar unit from Amazon when my truck was doing the exact same thing. Also checked the pressure with a gauge I got from Harbor Freight.

I had the same problem with my 97 Dakota until I got a new oil pressure switch/sending unit. Got from auto zone and picked up the socket to put it on with. So far so good. It has been over 250 miles and hasn't dropped the pressure. Funny thing too is the one little thing has kept my check engine light off and the code that it would throw was PO 307 for cylinder 7 misfire. Anyways, I hope you got this fixed by now.
