Default Transmission stuff

So i traded 2wd Ford for a 2000 dakota 4 door 4.7 with 45rfe. Transmisson was said to be problematic. Came with spare rfe and transfer case. Seems it was in limp mode it wanted to go with hardly any power surgering. So i took the entire valvebody and the elcectronic part from the said working transmission, cleared the main limp codes and od error..

When driving it sometimes not wanting to shift into 3rd and 4th but 1 2 and R are strong.. feels like a slip anyeays its o ly got 6 qts of fluid gotta add more but beyound that any ideas before i swap the entire transmissions.

I am planning on full rebuild down the road just for now trying to try and just get it going to drive dependable.

Also; is it normal for code reader not able to clear the codes on these years? I have a cheap little reader the 20.00 one from tractor supply - that refuses to reset the codes; only way i can clear them is disconnecting the battery for a while.

Is it just a cheap reader or is that typical of transmission codes on these trucks? Sorry for the dumb questions if it is; my previous dak was a 44 w/ 318 so it didn't have issues like this.

P0734 and p0733 before that i had 2 others two but i swapped the valve body with the electronic part as it was not wanting to drive at all. When those codes fpr 3rd and 4th hit it felt like it was slipping when they came on and since the mil lit it wont try so now i have fluid level up im resetting to see what it does.

Have you tried testing your output speed sensor? I’ve heard that can mess these up.

So with full fluid it tried shifting to 3rd but was slipping really bad not going in gear produced P0733 for 3rd gear never made it to 4th..

R 1st 2nd is good but it shifts hard i to drive though a litle harder than i feel it ahould. a LL WORKING gears seem strong.

I have not tried speed sensor just the main component

Im considering swapping the other trans in but the tag only says RFE not 45RFE is this still compatible? The thing looks identical other than the tag.
The pic listed is the transmission that supposedly came from a working vehicle. Not sure what kind. Supposedly works

Can’t you compare the identification numbers with yours? If not I’ll go look under my truck in the morning. Too dark and cold currently for me.

The number that ends in AD. I don’t know much about them either but I figured I’d try to help since you’re going through something similar to me.
