IE dont skimp, put it back together better than you found it so that the truck is ready to go a other 100k easily. I dont want to spend money for no reason, but I dont want concur corners or end up regretting i didn't do something when the engine was out.

So I called a couple shops around here and they're both around $300 for a basic head jobs and machining the heads for flatness. New seats gets pretty pricey though, at $35+ each.

The first shop seems to have a better reputation and would be about $930 total. To which I have to wonder if I'm better off trying to find already rebuilt heads? If so would those have new seats?

The other shop says he recommends just replacing the ones that have dropped and he just "reinforces" the others by pounding them into the head, and claims he's never had a head come back with more dropped seats. Does that sound right? Seems a little like cutting corners.
I think for that kind of money, you could get a set of NEW heads......

Finally got it out. Will start to tear down the weekend. You can see the seat intact on #2, which I regard as a good sign.

Only one seat bad enough to damage a piston. Heads look fixable but still unsure the best route.

Put EQ heads on it (PN is 318A) or order Iron Rams from Hughes Engine. Piston...depends on how deep that cut is.

EDIT - thought this wa s amagnu. Just realized i was wrong

I have no idea what that means.

Found a really good machine shop through a friend that owns his own repair place. They're going to do a full valve job and all new seats for me for way less than anywhere else I could find. Will end up being a lot less than any reman heads I could find, and none of those guaranteed new seats.

They're going to mic' the crank and block for me and let me know if they need to grind it. Then I'll know what size bearings I need.

Where's the best place to get the remained rebuild parts? Need new bearings, rings, seals/gaskets, and a timing kit. And an oil pump I guess.

Summit Racing, Jegs, or your local parts store. Get good quality parts. You may spend a bit more, but, in the end, it's worth it.

Was able to score some HO cams and intake at the pick n pull this weekend.

I thought I had read that you needed the HO throttle body as well. Is that true or did I waste money on that?
