Default Muffler installation--Tips?

Hello everyone,

I've been wanting to replace the stock muffler on my 00 4.7L CC Dak 4x4 (just purchased), but I got to looking at it and it has to be the oddest stock muffler I've seen. Almost as if it was an afterthought. Anyways, is there an "easy" way to just unclamp the old one and pop in a new one? The centerlines don't even look like they line up correctly. Any suggestions from those of you with an aftermarket muffler? Not even sure if it would be an offset/offset solution or a center/offset. I was just going to leave it as a single-out and put a Super 40 in (to just save me some $$). I really would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Nope. You have to cut it off. Those clamps on either end of the muffler actually crimped the pipe on there. I put an offset/center cheapo Flow=Pro on it (it was laying around behind my buddy's garage). When I get the money I'm going 2.5" from the manifolds into a 3" high flow cat and 3" flowmaster (30 I think, like my other truck) out the stock location. The crossover pipe looks like 1.75" pipe. Yuck.

To alot of people straight pipes are just to loud and anoying. That and the fact that in most states they will not pass inspection.

Some of us are courteous to our neighbors and everyone else who might be trying to sleep. I feel bad enough waiting for my Ram to warm up at 7am and it's not even the loudest of my vehicles.

Horatio, did you have any problems getting that offset in/center out muffler on? Have to mount it on its side to get the piping to line up? Thanks.

Nope, not really. We fit it all together and put it in the hangers and then I cranked the tailpipe where I wanted it and my buddy welded it in. It looks pretty much stock, perhaps it's a little tighter to the body than stock. If you really look underneath though it doesn't quite line up as perfectly as factory, and one of the hangers isn't seated all the way, but it's not coming out either. Good enough to hold me over until I've got the coin to do a full exhaust w/2.5" into 3" high flow cat and 3" out the back.

I think that is probably the route I am going to go, Horatio. Either that or I'll go get one of the "tube" style Dynomax Ultra Flow mufflers to slap under there. What I am wanting right now though is a Flowmaster Super 40. Not looking for anything fantabulous right now.. just something to make it sound meaner going down the road.

Thanks for the suggestions!
