Default 1997 Dakota blowing signal and Emergency Flasher fuses

I have had good luck with my 97 Dakota but a couple of months ago it began blowing signal and emergency flasher fuses,, It seems fine at idle or on the battery but as soon as I drive the fuses will blow after a few signals.. the wiring seems fine to the signal lights ,, I did find a broken ground to my trailer plug and fixed that,The charging system tested good , I need help to sort this out before I have to spendmoney on a shop. Thanks

There are two fuses feeding the Combination Flasher - Fuse 19 on the driver side of the dash (10 amp) and Fuse 1 in the PDC under the hood (30 amp). Is it blowing both of those or only one?

And will it blow the fuse turning either direction?

I don't have an FSM/diagram for the older trucks. I was going off my 01, I assumed that side of the circuit wouldn't have changed much. Buti only show one fuse under the hood, the second being in the fuse block in the dashboard.

The fuses in the dash are on the end where you have to open the drivers door to access them. There are no signal fuses there on my 97 Dakota. The two fuses it blows are for the signals and flashers in the fuse bank on the front DS fender. And it loses brake lights when it blows them. Sometimes it only blows the signal fuse. I spent time today cleaning the connector plugs that feed the left side signal and tail lights. The socket pins, socket connector and connector to the main harness were all green with corrosion,, tomorrow I am going to drop the spare tire and check all the wires at the back including the trailer wiring. It seems like the fuse blew when I hit the brake peddle. Very frustrating indeed.

To anyone interested,, i changed out the two signal/brake light wires that connect behind the drivers side front wheel and feed the tail lights, there was a short somewhere in the harness. I determined it to be the green wire that was faulty,

Did you replace them on the engine/cabin side of Connector 352 or the chassis side? How far did you replace them?

I'm not sure which connector you refer to as #352. But the connector I started at is black with four wires in and out. It is behind the drivers side front wheel about at the rear of the tire and mounted on the frame. I believe the four wires to it come out of a larger bundle .I changed out both signal/brake wires from about 3-4 inches behind the female connector to the back at each connector to the signal/brake pigtails. The short was somewhere in there. I discovered by accident that it was in the green wire to the left signal when I hooked up the trailer pigtail. When I cut it to solder into the new left side tail light wire, I cut behind where it was still connected to the old wire and didn't notice until I checked after the problem persisted. As soon as I cut the old wire off the problem was solved. good luck.
